Don’t Let Your Spiritual Life Plateau!

Text: 1 Corinthians 11:23-34; 2 Timothy 1:1-7 – Our calendar year has natural cycles. Back to School brings excitement and high energy. Then we look forward to the Christmas season. Winter can be a drag but we wait in anticipation for Spring. Then, with our energy depleted, we long for summer and vacation. Churches go through similar cycles. Energy is high when ministry start-ups happen in September, but as the year progresses, our energy wanes and we long for summer when things slow down and life plateaus. The problem occurs when we let the summer plateau drag on and become the norm. In this message, Pastor Russ challenges us not to settle for the “plateau” but, as the apostle Paul encouraged Timothy, to “rekindle afresh the gifts in [us]…” becauseĀ “God didn’t give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.”
